Recall initiated for electric fireplaces sold at Lowe's (2)

Fireplace recall overview:

  • Who: Twin-Star is recalling about 14,670 of its Style Selections 42-inch-wide Infrared Quartz Electric Fireplaces.
  • Why: The fireplace recall comes because the product can overheat, causing a fire hazard.
  • Where: The Lowe’s recall is effective across the United States.

Twin-Star has begun a recall for its Style Selections 42-inch-wide Infrared Quartz Electric Fireplace product, sold at Lowe’s, due to a fire hazard created by overheating, according to the recall.

The company is recalling 14,670 of the fireplaces that were sold for around $200 at Lowe’s and Lowes.com between September 2021 through January 2023.

The Lowe’s recall is for a 5,200 BTU, Black Infrared Quartz Electric Fireplace with model No. 42HF295FGT that was manufactured before January 2023. The fireplaces have a date code of 0521, 0322, 0422, 0522, 0622, 0722 and 0822.

The words “Twin-Star International, Inc.” and the model number are printed on the top panel of the fireplaces while the date code and serial number are printed on the back panel.

Twin-Star has received 24 overheating reports and two with property damage, recall says

Twin-Star says it has received 24 reports of overheating and two reports of property damage but no injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Twin-Star has advised consumers to immediately stop using and unplug the recalled electric fireplace before contacting the company for a full refund. Consumers should fill out the online fireplace recall registration form or call Twin-Star at 855-884-9651 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday.

Earlier this year, a U.S. safety watchdog urged Americans to learn how to safely heat their homes this winter, with heaters causing dozens of fire deaths each year, predominantly in communities of color.
